A Gift of Hope to Jamaica

At the Treasure Chest Foundation, our mission has always been rooted in spreading hope and joy to children fighting cancer. This past winter, that mission took a meaningful step beyond U.S. borders, reaching the pediatric ward at Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston, Jamaica.

It all began with an email from Stephanie, a Director at the Women in Law Foundation, a non-profit organization of Attorneys-at-Law dedicated to philanthropic service. Inspired by her son’s recent treatment at the Miami Cancer Institute and by the comfort she witnessed firsthand from the Treasure Chest Foundation’s donations, Stephanie dreamed of bringing that same light to the children back home in Jamaica.

“My son was diagnosed with medulloblastoma and he is being treated at Miami Cancer Institute,” she shared. “At MIC I saw firsthand the joy that your packages brought to the children and imagined us doing a similar thing for children at the Children’s Hospital in Jamaica.”

Her vision quickly became reality. In partnership with the Treasure Chest Foundation, Stephanie organized a Christmas treat initiative for 30 children at Bustamante Hospital. When she reached out to us we were immediately on board. “We were incredibly moved by Stephanie’s story and her desire to turn a personal challenge into a source of hope for others,” said Kendra Connor, Executive Director of the Treasure Chest Foundation. “We knew we wanted to help however we could.”

The Foundation gathered toys, coloring books, crayons and more, enough for all 30 children. Stephanie committed to packing and distributing the items and even covered the cost of shipping, ensuring that everything made it safely to the children in Jamaica. This collaboration was a beautiful example of what happens when compassion meets action, when one family’s experience sparks a ripple effect of kindness across countries. It reminded us that joy knows no borders, and neither does the spirit of giving.

We are honored to have been part of this initiative and deeply grateful to Stephanie for reaching out and allowing us to be a part of this amazing opportunity. As we continue expanding our impact, both near and far, we’re reminded that sometimes the smallest gifts create the biggest smiles, no matter where in the world they’re delivered.
